AAO has a vision for an expanded child welfare project in Sierra Leone that is designed specifically to meet both the immediate and long-term needs of children and young adults in desperate circumstances.

It is the desire of AAO to provide rehabilitation, medical care and education for hundreds and thousands of war-affected, orphaned, abandoned, and destitute children and adolescents in Sierra Leone. With the right opportunities, destitute children and adolescents can become self-sufficient and responsible adults. These opportunities enrich not only individual children, but are passed on to the community, the nation, and future generations.

All As One has purchased 6 acres of land in Grafton, Sierra Leone, just outside Freetown. This area has an available water supply, as well as a large population of displaced and war-wounded children and families, who would greatly benefit from All As One's services. Pictured below is the available water supply on the purchased land.

All As One’s plans for the six acres include:

Expanded All As One Clinic/Hospital. Only approximately 36% of people in Sierra Leone have access to medical care. The All As One Hospital would target infants and children under the age of five and women who are at risk during childbirth, as well as addressing other medical concerns. This small hospital (50-75 beds) would serve thousands of Sierra Leonean children and families each year. Pictured below is an artist’s rendition of a prototype hospital in Sierra Leone.

Expanded All As One School. Sierra Leone has one of the world’s lowest adult literacy rates in the world at 30% (UNICEF, 2006 ). Our plan is to build a much larger school to provide primary and junior secondary education to the children in our care and the surrounding community.

The first phase of this project would provide a primary education for at least 300 children each term. The school will follow Sierra Leone’s structured educational system allowing children to attend six years of Primary School and then three years of Junior Secondary School. With funds available, three years of Senior Secondary School could also be provided. In the evenings, the school building will also be used for vocational training classes so that hundreds more Sierra Leoneans can learn a useful skill or trade in order to become self-sufficient. Through this program, the school building will have maximum usage and thousands of students each year could be educated. Pictured below is a prototype of a potential school to be built for All As One in Sierra Leone.

Expanded All As One Children’s Center. There are an estimated 340,000 orphans in Sierra Leone. (UNICEF, 2006 ). Our future plans would include an expanded orphanage for up to 150 children, who would otherwise die or be left homeless. The vision for the new Children’s Center is to build three new homes for the children -- one for the girls, one for the boys and ones for infants and toddlers.

--------------------

In addition to the main components listed above, a new administration building for the entire compound, guest quarters, a centrally located cafeteria/kitchen with large dining hall, plus a soccer playing field and playground for the children, are also part of our plans.

All As One envisions a new, modern complex of buildings appropriate to the climate and conditions in Sierra Leone. We plan to have a hospital with medical equipment and supplies that are not routinely found in Sierra Leone, and medical professionals coming from abroad to train Sierra Leone’s nurses and doctors so that more lives can be saved. In total, we anticipate constructing 10-15 new buildings during the first phase, with room for further expansion over time, and as funds are available.

Currently, we are seeking partners to help us get the land ready for construction and also to fund the building of the new compound. Please contact us at info@aaodubai.org, if you would like to help.
